What a sick and demented author. She writes a great series of books that entices kids (and adults) and makes them respect a very powerful character. Then after she finishes the books and everyone has read them, she drops the bomb that Dumbledore was gay. Way to mess up a kid’s sense of morality.

Uh… yes. The fact that Dumbledore’s a good person doesn’t matter, nor does the fact that he’s a wizard, it’s his being gay that’ll really screw kids up. Very cogent analysis.

The whole point is this: Parents have a right to censor what their young children read. It isn’t up to J.K. Rowling to inject her views onto other people’s children. Would she like me to hand her child a novel that went against her views without her knowledge? And that crap she gave about needing to focus on the story being the reason she kept quiet - that is total b.s. She made sure she got everyone’s money first. I hope the last two movies are totally boycotted.

Dumbledore was gay before this made the news… would you prefer that every book came with a huge warning on the cover?

WARNING: One of the characters in this book may actually be gay. Not in a way that you’d really notice as a casual reader, but the author may make an explicit announcement at a later date. At that point the heads of homophobes everywhere will explode.

You people are ridiculous. its a book. she probably came up with the gay thing after she finished the whole series just as a nice little twist. why should kids be sheltered from homosexuality? its real, its loving and its natural. you homophobics are holding up the progress of humanity. you’re no better than racists.

So let me get this straight (pardon the pun) it’s Ok for your child to read about Wizards and the practice of Black Magic but the mere suggestion of a homosexual in the VERY SAME book causes outrage? My oh my what a contorted view of the world you must have.

“why should kids be sheltered from homosexuality? its real, its loving and its natural.”

Wait, it’s natural? The biological “parts” don’t pair up quite so well last time I checked.

Holding up humanity? Racists? Let me spell this out for you. What is the basic instinct of any species? To survive. How does a species survive? Survival is done through reproduction. How does a species reproduce? (OK, I know you’ll have trouble with this one if you think two men being together is natural). Reproduction is done when a man and a woman have intercourse and then reproduce. So if all couples in the world consisted of two men or two women, reproduction stops and the species dies. Homosexuality is against the most basic function of a species - to reproduce and survice. So how could it possible be normal or natural? And back to my point - what my child is taught is my choice. I won’t teach him to hate. I will teach him not to hurt people he doesn’t agree with. I will teach him to be kind even if he doesn’t agree with a different lifestyle. But I will also teach him what I believe is right and wrong. Sounds like you need to rethink your hatred of people who don’t agree with you. Maybe you’re the racist here.

The 8-year-old daughter of a friend of mine came home from school recently, upset because she’d been called a “bad” name. After much encouragement my friend, her mother, got her to spell out the “bad” name. It was G. A. Y.

My friend had to explain to her that although she understood why she was upset if it was meant in a nasty way, there was nothing actually bad or wrong with “gay”. Mother and daughter looked it up in the dictionary (the daughter has a habit of doing this anyway, she’s a very smart kid) and saw that “gay” meant either happy or homosexual, and my friend explained that being homosexual is something that occurs throughout the animal kingdom, their neighbour is gay and he’s nice isn’t he, and it’s really nothing to be judgmental about, let alone to use as some kind of insult.

Perhaps my friend could have taught you some Basic Morality For Eight-year-olds, too?

My basic morality is just fine, thanks. I take my guidance from the Bible, not Webster’s dictionary. And like the others who choose personal attacks just because I dare to speak my mind, you miss the point. This is not about the right vs. wrong of homosexuality. It’s about an author waiting until the seventh book in her series is published to tell parents that oh, by the way - the main teacher is gay. Books marketed to adults - that’s a different matter. Adulst can make their own choices. But books marketed to children should be more honest. What J.K. Rowling did was deceitful. Not once in any book did she talk about Dumbledore being gay. If she wants to make a point that “gay is okay” she can do that - but she should have been honest about it. Perhaps your friend should teach Ms. Rowling about morality. And if you think what Rowling did was ok, then perhaps she should teach you.

I totally agree. I don’t hate gays, I’m just sick of hearing about it and watching as the world force feeds a sexual practice to us all. You can’t turn on the tv anymore without seeing it, yet if you speak up about it because your own beliefs and even your religion goes against it, just like it has for 1000s of years, then you are labeled a hater or a homophobe. Where is this big push coming from to have us all embrace fags? I mean if you want to swing that way then do it in YOUR home and leave it there. NO one else wants to hear about it.

I will also never watch another Harry Potter film again. The movie was ruined along with virtually every tv show on now adays.

Who cares if he was gay? Get over it, this is the year 2008 times have changed. Might as well teach kids what the real world is truly about so when they see a grown man with a “limp” wrist they won’t be to suprised! Personally I think the author of the series has the right in the world to say that, she wrote them and made millions get over it. Also I hate the movies because movies ruin imaginations, the books always will be a billion times better than the movies.
